Ingredients

Dry ingredients
  • 1 ¼ cup flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
Wet ingredients
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1/3 cup melted butter (or oil)
Chocolate batter
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C). Prepare a loaf pan by greasing it with nonstick spray or lining it with parchment paper.
  2. Combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and sugar by sifting them together into a medium bowl.
  3. Add the vanilla, sweetened condensed milk, milk, beaten egg, and melted butter to the dry mixture. Stir until the batter is just combined.
  4. Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan, setting aside about ½ cup of batter for the chocolate portion.
Marbling and Baking
  1. Mix the cocoa powder into the reserved ½ cup of batter until evenly combined.
  2. Spread the chocolate batter over the plain batter in the loaf pan, then use the tip of a knife to create an S-shaped swirl pattern throughout the batter.
  3. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
Serving
  1. Slice the loaf and serve with butter or jam if desired, or enjoy with coffee.

Notes

Allow the loaf to bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean for a properly set crumb.
