Ingredients

Wet ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Dry ingredients
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
Add-ins
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Combine melted butter and brown sugar, then whisk in the egg yolk and vanilla.
  2. Add flour, salt, and baking soda, stirring until combined. Mix in the chocolate chips.
  3. Split the dough between two 8-ounce ramekins and gently press it into the bottom of each ramekin.
Baking
  1. Bake for 18-22 minutes, using 18 minutes for an underbaked texture, 20 minutes for a semi-baked texture, or 22 minutes for a more fully baked cookie bowl.
  2. Let the cookie bowls cool briefly so they become slightly firmer, then serve warm, ideally with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

If ramekins are unavailable, the dough can also be baked in other vessels. A muffin tin makes 4 mini bowls with an 8-10 minute bake time, small oven-safe bowls make 2 thicker cookie-style bowls with a 14-18 minute bake time, and a sheet pan makes 5 flatter cookies with a 7-9 minute bake time.
